In June, Connors State College livestock judging team members exhibited and sold three wethers at the Midwest Stud Ram Sale, North Americas premier sheep show and sale, in Sedalia, Missouri. These sheep were born and raised at Connors States sheep unit, which is overseen by Assistant Livestock Judging Coach Nolan Hildebrand.
The Connors wethers collectively earned Reserve Champion Natural Wether, fourth overall Hampshire wether, and fourth overall crossbred wether, while the crossbred was the second high-selling wether in the entire sale.
For us to exhibit highly competitive sheep in Sedalia is no small feat, as it is the largest sheep sale in the country, said Hildebrand. Multiple judging team students worked extremely hard on all the sheep this past year and the results prove that. As their coach and flock manager, I could not be more proud of the work they have done.
All three lambs were born out of donation ewes the college received last year from Middlesworth Club Lambs of Iowa, Kennedy Livestock of Iowa, and Allen Show Lambs of Oklahoma.
Students representing the college in Sedalia were: Chris Hart of Georgia, Jesse Henson of North Carolina, and John Nelson of Oklahoma.
The students and I would like to thank Roger Morten, Larry McFarland, and Todd Trennepohl for their help at the farm, and with the Sheep Unit, added Hildebrand.
