Q: How do I apply for financial Aid?
A: Students apply annually for
financial aid by filling out the Free Application for Federal Student
Aid (FAFSA). You can get a FAFSA form from your high school,
post-secondary school, or the CSC financial aid office. The form
can also be completed online at
www.fafsa.ed.gov. Make sure the FAFSA covers the academic year
in which you plan to enroll. The second year, you should receive a
renewal FAFSA in the mail. It will be mailed to the address listed
on the previous application. They can also be completed online at
the same website. Renewal applications will be mailed no later
that January for the following Fall and Spring semester. If you do
not receive a renewal application, a new application will be required.
Q: What the school code for Connors
State College?
A: The Connors State College school
code is 003153
Q: Once I complete the FAFSA what
will happen next?
A: If you apply by mail, your
application will be processed in three to six weeks. The online
application has somewhat of a faster response. Once processed, a
Student Aid Report (SAR), will be sent through the mail. The SAR
will restate the information you provided in the FAFSA. If
corrections need to be made follow the instructions provided on part two
of the SAR. Make sure CSC is listed as a school to receive the
SAR, if all questions on the SAR are correct then do not respond.
The CSC financial aid officer will receive your SAR information
electronically so you can keep the hard copy for your records.
Q: How will I know if I qualify for
student financial aid?
A: Everyone should qualify for some
form of financial aid. Financial aid includes; Federal Pell Grant,
Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (SEOG), Oklahoma
Tuition Aid Grant (OTAG), Federal Work Study, Federal Subsidized
Stafford Loans, Federal Unsubsidized Stafford Loans, and Parent Loans
(PLUS).
Q: Do I have to repay my financial
aid?
A: Not all financial aid has to be
repaid. Grants for example are funds that you do not require
repayment. Work study is another form of financial aid that does
not have to be repaid. It allows the student to work throughout
the semester earning money to assist in paying for education.
However, loans are funds borrowed that you must repay after graduation.
The repayment amount is calculated with interest, so students should be
advised to use this form of financial aid sparingly.
Q: Do I need to complete a FAFSA if
I only want student loans?
A: Yes, loans are part of federal
student aid and anyone seeking federal financial aid must file a FAFSA.
Also, you may qualify for funds to which you don't know your eligible
for.
Q: When should I complete my FAFSA?
A: You should apply for financial aid
as soon as possible after January 1st. Some financial aid programs
have limited funding and therefore early deadlines. Your financial
aid file must be completed and any requested documentation requested by
the financial aid office must be submitted by the deadline to get the
best financial aid.
For Example:
OTAG...............March 1st
Work Study...............May 1st
BIA...................Varies with tribe
FSEOG......................May 1st
Q: When will CSC notify me of my financial aid
eligibility?
A: Students will be notified of their
financial aid eligibility once all of the following conditions have been met:
1. You have been admitted to CSC and submitted
a class schedule to the registrar
2. Your FAFSA has been submitted and a valid
(no errors) SAR has been sent to CSC.
3. Your financial aid file is complete.
Some students may be required to submit documentation such as parent and student
tax forms, social security card, federal verification worksheet, etc. The
financial aid will notify those students which require additional documentation
to complete their financial aid file.
Q: What will my family be expected to pay
towards my college education?
A: The information a student reports when
applying for federal student aid is applied to a formula established by the
United States Congress. This formula determines your Expected Family
Contribution (EFC), or the amount you and/or your family are expected to
contribute toward total education costs.
Q: When will my student loan be disbursed?
A: The student will receive an award letter
through the mail. This correspondence will also include explanations on
the process and the steps required to complete it. There will also be
directions on what is required to receive future student loans. Students
are advised to thoroughly read all materials provided by the financial aid
office.
Q: What is financial aid probation and
suspension?
A: Students are required to maintain
satisfactory academic progress while receiving student financial aid. If
this is not maintained they will be placed on probation. Once on probation
if the requirements are not met the student will be suspended. More
specific information can be found at
www.connorsstate.edu/financial_aid/progr.
Q: If I am on financial aid probation or
suspension can I still receive a student loan?
A: Student loans and grants are both part of
federal funding. As such, if a student is on probation they would be
deemed as not making "satisfactory progress." Therefore they would only be
eligible for grants. If satisfactory progress is not maintained while the
student is in probation status they will be classified as suspended for the
following semester. This classification will not allow the student to
receive any federal aid until they have successfully completed 12 credit hours
while earning appropriate grades and making payments on their on accord.
