What is the
FOCUS program?
The FOCUS program is a culmination of efforts
provided by Connors State College and Indian Capital Technology Center
to prepare TANF recipients for success in the work environment.
What does FOCUS
do?
Career Exploration...
Students are able to research and explore career
possibilities and receive structured guidance prior to deciding what
training they would like to pursue. Activities like program shadows and
job shadows assist in narrowing interests.
Academic Skills...
Students can improve their basic academic skills
like writing, vocabulary, and math while progressing through the
programs core curriculum. This aids in a fluid transition into their
desired technical training component.
Life Skills...
Often times, life skills are a predictor of success
in the workplace. The FOCUS program acknowledges this and provides
training in areas like budgeting, nutrition, personal appearance and
problem solving to help insure workplace stability.
Technical Training...
Numerous technical training programs are available
with varied formats. These include a college certificate program, full
time technical and short term technical. Please read further for an
abbreviated listing.
Job Placement
Once a student completes their training component,
staff will assist in the employment process. This will include help
with resume writing, interview skills, job search, and even
transportation if needed.
